Description
Agronomist Engineer and Winemaker graduated from “Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Agronomie de Montpellier” in 1989, Hervé Birnie Scott has been working since then as a Winemaker, starting first in wineries from California and Australia.
In 1991, he joined Bodegas Chandon (Argentina), part of the LVMH-Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy Group, as responsible for managing a premium still wines project to craft world class wines in Mendoza, leading to the creation of Terrazas de los Andes winery.
From 1994 to 2002, Hervé held different managing positions, first as Director of Bodegas Chandon, then in 1998 Winemaking and Operations Director for all the Chandon Estates.
In 2002, he took a new challenge and came back to France to hold the position of Moët & Chandon, Dom Perignon, Mercier and Ruinart Operations Director in Champagne, then in 2006 he assumed the same role for the whole Moët Hennessy Group.
In April 2008, he focused back on his passion for vine growing and winemaking, being appointed Estates & Wines Technical Director for its 9 wineries around the world and directly in charge of Numanthia Winery (Toro, Spain).
Connoisseur of Mendoza terroir, a place very close to his heart, he decided to come back to Argentina in 2009 as Estate Manager of Chandon Argentina and Terrazas de los Andes.
Hervé Birnie-Scott lives in Mendoza with his wife, Eloisa. They have four children. When not in the vineyards or the cellars, you’ll find him skiing, hiking, kayaking and enjoying the mountain life.
